Dental care is an integral part of your dog’s health. Like humans, dogs’ teeth can build up with plaque and tartar, which can eventually lead to dental disease and spread infection through the body. Bad breath, heavy drooling or inflamed gums can be good indicators that your dog could already have dental issues. This is why at the Airdrie Animal Health Centre, with each physical exam, we ensure that your dog’s teeth are healthy with an oral health inspection.

What types of canine dental care services are offered at your clinic?

We offer comprehensive dental cleanings. These cleanings include polishing, scaling, adding fluoride, and if necessary, dental radiographs and surgeries. We also offer a diverse line of oral health care products which can help you provide your pet with preventative oral health care.

How often should I brush my dog’s teeth?

The gold standard for brushing your pet’s teeth is every day. Starting at 8-12 weeks of age, your dog can start having their teeth brushed with the aid of animal-specific toothpaste. At the Airdrie Animal Health Centre, we offer toothbrushes and toothpaste that are specifically catered to make brushing your pet’s teeth both easier and more effectively. Avoid baking sodas and hydrogen peroxide as they can be harmful. Other suggestions for keeping your pet’s teeth looking and feeling their best include:

  • Daily brushings
  • Crunchy, tooth-friendly foods
  • Reducing treats
  • Eliminating all human sweets (especially chocolate)
  • Consulting with your vet about chew toys and dental-care products
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled appointments
